Bibliomancy
Bibliomancy is a form of magic that relies on texts and writing, primarily in the form of books. It is best known for being a divinatory technique, but the application of books and texts as a form of magic are evident in many different traditions and can be applied to your practice in a similar way; Such examples include the travelling Orphics of Ancient Greece, who would cast spells from books professed to be written by ancient heroes, to the use of verses from the bible or torah for protective or baneful workings. Texts as a form of magic also often overlaps with other forms of magic that use symbols, since letters and words themselves often contain certain symbolic powers and are utilized in this way. Books and other forms of written text often also come with illustrations that may themselves hold unique application on a spell and the arrangement of certain words, symbols and images together are often a basis for many spells, both ancient and modern.
In the modern day, books hold a special place for a vast majority of practitioners, either as carriers of magical information, as status symbols, and even in the form of grimoires, which are sometimes passed down between generations, giving a longevity to a practice that can outlast a single human lifetime. Language itself is a fundamental glue in many cultures that carry across the world and books are the vehicles of that language, able to carry the whispers of peoples otherwise forgotten in the sands of time. The potential in books as a magical tool is endless and it proves often to be one of my most preferred tools at that.
